Even though a phone may have the same model name and listed components, the generation of the hardware and sometimes even the parts in batches do sometimes vary, I've even heard CWM is more ideal to flash from for MIUI because it is generally an apparently more stable recovery for it, who knows.

I know sometimes for me, when I flash a Rom sometimes It just doesn't go over right and requires a re-flash, this has happened multiple times to me w/ things like AvatarRom where USB Debug was just not working for me but did previously.

job well done

Having trouble installing the rom.  Just wondering how long the flash process normally takes?  I'm using TWRP and flashed other roms before.  During the install process, it didn't get beyond the md5 check.  I stopped the install process at around the 10 minute mark.  Does it normally take this long?

Tried that twice.  Should have mentioned that...

It -never- takes this long, I have no idea what the issue is

Normally, flashing takes no more than a minute or two.  This one's got me puzzled.  Hoping someone out there knows of a trick or two.  I've always wanted to play around with miui.

This is the md5 that I'm getting with the most current version (7/8):  3DA872040025D327C1B5BBC56806266D

Anyone have something different?

By the way, I forgot to mention but there is 'hidden' functionality all over the rom, I updated OP with screenshots to show what I'm talking about but if you swipe down on Notes for example, it opens a smaller widget of it that you can interact with without actually opening the application

twrp just didnt like me... but i noticed even in CWM trying to wipe cache and system most of the times took 2 or 3 reboots and tries....I thought it was a twrp thing so I switched back and its the same on CWM...gotta be persistant though after a few tries I got it to wipe ( i did them one by one instead of factory reset, and it finally worked for me...

once you get the the right partitions to format installing miui is under 10  mins... and the first boot it took me under 3 mins.

I think it all starts with the recoveries, I never had this much difficulty doing a backup/restore or format on any of my other devices using either of the 2 recoveries....so i think its more related to our phones and the recovery...just my 2 cents

peace

- 4G now works
- Alternate Kernels may be flashed after the initial install/Xiaomi account setup
*N40 Kernel will fix all artifacting/wakelock issues and most other stability issues at the expense of Camera.
- Slight Wakelocks may occur, but none are system-impairing.
- Xiaomi Weather is GONE, use Weather BZ from Play store It is an International Weather replacement for MIUI that is fully compatible with MIUIs themes and aesthetic style, I have not included it so people can update it from the play store.
- Sim Prompt on Install is now gone

Will flashing alternate kernals, kill theme functions...ie is shelld in the n40 kernal. also for bluetooth audio to function correctly, we need to use the n38 kernal....will shelld function on that kernal too?
Peace

It only needs to be called to the point of activating a Xiaomi account for DRM purposes, after n38 kernel should work

After some serious amount if trial and error, I was able to determine that bytecode R3 kernel does not break the camera and removes screen artifacts.

Bluetooth is still broken and 4G but this may shed some light.

I am currently asking for permission to distribute the old kernel.

I have received permission to distribute this kernel.  Credit goes to ByteCode and GillRigged (who actually had a copy of the kernel).

The kernel can be downloaded from here:

edit: The N4 kernal appears to work as well:

So far, these are the outstanding issues I see:
- 4G does not appear to work and connects via eHRPD
- Bluetooth does not appear to work (connects but no audio)
- USB mounting works, but if you charge your phone, you will need to reboot your phone to get USB to detect on your computer

Ideally, if someone could figure out what changed between the different kernel and update the kernel with the latest fixes and patches without messing with the camera function.  I will continue to flash newer kernels to see which kernel breaks the camera.

Ok, don't feel the need to post up an entirely new thread so this will also be where PatchRom goes when/If I can get it finished, CWM is bringing drama into my life and my ADB won't recognize this phone when in recovery mode; does anyone know a recovery that can be recognized via USB?

I'll continue to maintain JB ports on & off, but there will be no beta testing at all since I've re-obtained an unlocked phone
