Well, I thought I would go ahead post this one here. Just in case anyone is interested, Tapatalk is celebrating their “4 Year Anniversary”, four years doesn’t sound like much to me. But, it seems they have released a Beta version of Tapatalk 4 that is FREE, keep in mind while it is FREE, it seems this beta is plot to get volunteers to test out the “HD” version of the app, which they are selling the app for $4.99, which is nearly twice the cost of Tapatalk 2.

 

 

In preparation for when this FREE app turns into PAID app, I have been making backups. Below, I have 6 versions that are all currently FREE versions, and of course the change log as well.

, Since, this is Beta it is only a matter of time until the FREE period ends and this becomes the HD version, but anyhow the backups should suffice if the FREE period ever ends.

It is free as long as you do not update it, just turn off the auto-updates in the Play store.

That's great. I don't have automatic updates (for Apps) turned on so I should be able to ignore the update notifications. Another question, I downloaded the 9th version 4.0.20 to my PC. What's the best way to install? Connect my phone to the PC and drop the file on the SD card or some other method?

Well you can ignore my last question...as you should be able to tell I'm using the app. Got it figured out...

I dropped the APK onto my SD card, downloaded the APK Manager. In APK Manager, I pressed "Install" but got a message that said "No Data. Check SD Card". Tried a couple of times but could never get it to recognize the SD Card. So...I used my Files directory, found the APK and pressed on it. It then asked to complete action using Package installer or Verify and install using Google settings. I selected the latter. It installed and when it completed, I went back to my App drawer but found no icon. The only way I can open TapTalk is to use APK Manager. Any idea how to find the Icon or where the it might be?

Get rid of apk manager reinstall the tapa app (if necessary).... it should show up in app drawer

That should put the icon right on your desktop, not just in app drawer.....

Also reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik (to remove any traces of the apk manager)

Well...the whole reason I went with KaChow's file download was it was free. I can still use Super Toolbox to open TapTalk4 it's just having to do that step which is the pain. I've done just about everything to try and get the icon to show up (anywhere) on my phone so if I can figure it out, i'll have to buy the app on Play.

Very interesting indeed ....... on my computer I see what you are seeing......on my daughter's tablet I see what you are seeing......... I cleared cache and rebooted phone....... and held my tongue to the right, and it still showed up free......
Maybe it just ain't found its way to the old RAZR yet LOL .....

Which for me, its not a big deal anyway..... I'm not very impressed with tapa4 anyway ..... LOL

So...any other ideas on how to get the icon to show up? I'm getting notifications just fine. Everything else send to work just fine I just can't find that stinkin' icon:angry:
