Yep, Ive had issues with GPS and various custom roms, most of which I was able to get working. Some ppl had luck by getting a good lock while in stock rom and then rebooting to the custom rom and its worked.
Others including myself use GPS Test in play store. In Settings for the app you can update the AGPS file and generally that works for me. Sometimes I need to just reboot to get GPS working.

yeah that has never helped me.. just tried again for kicks and giggles and still doesn't work... I'm guessing it's a bootloader issue since I never had that problem on my og droid or my eris.. maybe I'm just retarded and am doing something wrong lol
I'm not entirely sure what causes it, but in the past I had to fastboot my stock system. From then onwards I just make sure I have a GPS lock on the stock system before I flash any non-stock-based ROMs. This has kept the problem at bay for me

I want to add that even using the stock Verizon ROM the GPS does not work on some Droid Razr(maxx) phones. I was on Gingerbread up until two weeks ago and when I did the OTA upgrade to Jellybean the GPS stopped working. Motorola replaced the phone and it was also bad. Motorola sent me another replacement phone and it works as it should. I suspect there is some difference in the hardware that causes the GPS to stop working under ICS and/or Jellybean. I am not sure what causes it but it is not directly atributed to custom ROMS.

I have been on stock jelly bean since the update came out with no problems. super fast lock and very accurate. my phone was running crappy, though, and I wanted to try the official aokp Rom, so I flashed it a week or two ago. the data signal was weaker with that Rom, so I figured as long as I'm flashing roms might as well get a good one. ended up using rage Rom. been fine until today when it crapped out. Like I mentioned in the op, it only hever happens to me when using a custom Rom, and happened with my bionic. I can't imagine it happening to everyone or there would be more info on it, but it has happened to me on every build on both devices since gingerbread.I'm not entirely sure what causes it, but in the past I had to fastboot my stock system. I know this thread is a bit old, but I just started having this issue as well. I'm currently running SafeStrap 3.75 with LiquidSmooth 4.4.4 in rom slot 1 and stock but rooted in stock rom slot. Back when I originally bought my Bionic it had a non working GPS and I was going to put a custom rom on it but decided to FXZ it back to stock first and the GPS started working perfectly. My xt912 has always been spot-on perfect for GPS even after SafeStrap and 4.4.4, then I decided to try out Lollipop CM12 and bam, my GPS will no longer lock. Sometimes I will see a couple satellites and sometimes none. At first I tried removing all slots, SS3.75, and RSD Lite to go back to stock Jellybean... it took two times doing so but then GPS started working perfectly again. So with that I tried going back to 4.4.4 Liquid the way I had it before and the GPS stopped again. This time no matter how many times or different JB FXZ files I've tried the GPS doesn't seem to want to work again.
Did you ever get it fixed on yours? If so can you list the things you did? The next thing I've thought of is maybe going back to ICS or even Gingerbread to see if GPS will ever start again.
I'd love to know because my XT912 is still better than many phones out there... but not without my GPS working.
I'll post again if anything I do fixes it. No one else I've run into has had this problem.
