i think some have used rom toolbox
or its possible to flash like a theme or rom. You got something created already?

This or put it in /system/media named bootanimation.zip

Yeah i always just replace the .zip file in /system/media. You can use ROM Toolbox but it sometimes doesn't work with custom ROMs.
