Ok just so I do this correctly... Do I need to flash the 6/7 nightly and then Orion V8 or can I just flash Orion V8? Do I need to wipe Data? Davlik? Cache? Sorry I am a motard when it comes to nightly's and such!

You can also flash regular gapps from goo.im (or wherever floats your boat) instead of mine. This would also provide stock icons. The gapps aren't anything special except for the inverted goodness and the icons.....
As far as the theme - is there a desire for the stock themed version from the masses?
I respect very much those who like the darkened theme, however I find that the third party apps and other portions of the phone being not dark kind of break the theme. For me it becomes too much of a hassle to get icons for new apps installed and look for darkened versions of apps I already have.
I would be interested in stock-themed version of orion. In fact this is one of the only things holding me back from moving to orion. (I know that there are themes you can get in the play store, however I find this tedious and not always spot on)

I'm already running Orion 6.3. Do I have to wipe data and re setup everything or can just flash v8 over 6.3 without losing data

No, just wipe cache and dalvik. Mount, then install. Just flashed v8 earlier. Didn't lose data

tried this yesterday, and it was really smooth and efficient.
my minor concerns are:
- could not change the theme (do I have to download something first - I did not see that option)
- need the stock notification sounds - as cool as the pre-loaded sounds are, i prefer short and low sounds; I presume I could add some sounds myself to the right directory (but will need to adjust the default sound for charging, lock screen, etc)
really liked the ring tones (although i thought it would be cool to have the song Orion by Metallica as option)
battery performance seemed nice!

What I do is extract the ring tones and notification tones i like from other ROM zips using root browser and place them in the ROM I am using.

Also wondering how I can flash a different version of gapps. I wiped cache and davlik and tried to flash different gapps but it failed and installation was aborted. Gapps is for cm10.1 . is there anyway to uninstall gapps to install a different one? I'm assuming that is why it failed.

Toggle debugging off then on, computer should recognize it. If not, reboot phone, then toggle debugging. Also, update drivers.
Can anyone confirm if this gets adb working? It worked for me to get Windows to recognize phone but adb returns "unknown" for 'adb get-state'

When I typed "adb devices" a pop up showed on the phone showing me the fingerprint of the device and asked of I trusted the computer the device was connected to? I checked the box to always allow the phone to connect to the computer. After I hit OK, it showed my phone under the list of attached devices. First time I ever experienced that but it worked. I did not have to toggle debugging.

Thank you very much for this. Mch faster than other CM builds that I have found for this phone. Two things though. One is that my PC no longer charges my phone through USb, the second is the theme. I would rather have the default CM/Jelly Bean Android theme. Does anyone know if there is somewhere I can download it? Thanks again.
The USB charging issue/recognizing your phone on PC issue is a known issue with all 4.2.2 based ROMs on the Razr M I believe. At least from my experience with CM10.1, PAC, Baked, PA, Slim, and Orion. I just plug in my phone to my usb connector, then plug that into the PC; reboot my phone and usually everything is fine after that.

Eh. I would say not for me. This is your ROM and your theme IMO keep the theme the way you want it. If there is an ability to change themes, then let them do it themselves. Can't please everyone.
Thanks. I should have specified that it's not only with this ROM. I've had it happen with all android 4.2.2 Roms on this phone. I'll try that though.
Also, thank you for the answer for the theme. I love your theme and have no personal issues with it, nor was I wanting or expecting any extra work from you on my behalf. I was just looking for advice on the matter as my eyes are messed up and looking at inverted makes them strain to much. Thank you again for the quick answer. And thank you again for the amazing ROM.

As far as the theme goes, you can pull SystemUI.apk out of the corresponding nightly build and use that. That gets most things back to stock look (there seem to be some coloring changes in (I assume) framework-res.apk but when I tried flashing the nightly version there were a lot of strange artifacts). You can also flash all the rest of the apks from the nightly build to get back 'stock' icons on all the apps.

Updated OP with a second flashing option. Basically a nightly of your choice with my gapps packaged to make a rom. See post 2 for details.

6/9
The second option is for anyone looking for the stock theme. It also allows one to flash nightlies and using the updater/gapps be under no obligation to wipe data (if you are coming from any cm10.1 nighlty). It is not the exact same as the full ROM, but includes the performance and battery tweaks, boot animation and some ringtones. All the stock tones are still there, I just added some in for myself. No Orion from Metallica yet - I need to find a good copy.
Any nightlies I post will have the latest Vanquish source unless otherwise noted.
you rock!
downloading down and will test out tonight/tomorrow. thanks! below is a link I found to an Orion-Metallica mp3 file.
perhaps I can find a metallica boot animation too - assuming you are a metallica fan....

I'm a fan of Metallica with Cliff Burton. And Justice I can stomach but after that album they lost me.
P.s. maybe I should name option 2 breadfan......
