I was running into the same issues for a couple of days and finally got it to work. Can't guarantee it'll work for you but here's what I did: After trying all of the listed "names" I opted to try switching "Bridged" to "NAT" as mentioned earlier in this thread. That change got me past the "InavlId IP" error but I was unable to connect to the phone as it wasn't on the same subnet as my laptop. I restarted the VirtualBox, went back to "Bridged" and went thru the "name" options...miraculously the process went through and I'm rooted once again as confirmed via Root Checker Basic. Give it a shot...it just might work.
@marty45714 Thanks for the assist!!

Posting this for anyone that's having issues getting rooted. This may help discover what is happening:
Here are some tips that I posted for someone over on Droid Forums. Hopefully some of this will help us figure out what is going on:
Need you to do some investigation. Run the exploit again. Once your phone is connected to the SMB share and the Linux script verifies the connectivity, press Ctrl-C to break out of the script and return to the Linux command prompt. Make sure your phone is connected to USB. From there execute the following commands and share the output with me:
sudo ash
cd /home/guest/share
./adb.linux shell
(if you execute the above command and DO NOT see this prompt: shell@cdma_targa/ $
then you have USB connectivity issues and need to make sure you get your phone successfully connected
to VirtualBox and the Linux VM)
ls -l /storage/rfs0
I want to see the output of the "ls" command to verify that the SMB share is being mounted to /storage/rfs0
This can cause the exploit to fail is it's not.
If you see no output from that command, run this command:
find /storage -name pwn
If you get that far and this looks good. Can you type:
su -
and see if you get a root prompt? A root prompt means your prompt will end with '#' instead of '$' before the cursor.
If you do get this, it could be that your Superuser app is simply broken and need re-installed.
The command that the exploit runs to root the phone, once you get this far is:
/storage/rfso/pwn 1
You can try running that manually and see what happens.
I cannot get VirtualBox/LinuxVM to see my USB connection. I have tried all USB port, each time the PC sees the phone offers Verizon backup assistant and autoplay opens asking me what to do. But nothing from the VM. Phone is connected as Media device (MPT) and Developer options are on with USB debugging enabled. What I see on VM screen at this point
Waiting for phone to be connected to USB...
Please plug in the pone or troubleshoot your Virtualox USB connectivity.

I finally got this to work for me. I unplugged an USB device (webcam) and used that port for plugging in my XT875, viola VirtualBox USB driver installed phone recognized. Phone successfully rooted.

Anyone have issues connecting your bionic so that VirtualBox recognizes it? I am completely unable to have VB find my phone.
As per Marty's post later in the thread, I ran:
sudo ash
cd /home/guest/share
and I get ash: cd: can't cd to home/guest/share
If i go to the devices menu, the motorola xt875 is under USB, but there is also an unknown device (not sure it matters).
If I select moto xt875 I get this:
Failed to attach the USB device Motorola XT875 [0216] to the virtual machine Linux Minimal.
USB device 'Motorola XT875' with UUID {0ae987f6-1333-4190-8a5e-bf3f7fedc68a} is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.

Turns out the issue appeared to be that I was plugged into a USB 3.0 port. For whatever reason, that wasn't okay. Things appear to be working now, just waiting for my phone to reboot after the exploit.

I am rooted, the process was very easy. Thanks.
Should I know be able to use Safestrap? When I launch it on the Bionic I get an error that Safestrap has shut down.

Did you first uninstall SS Recovery from your phone? Not the app but actually go into the app and uninstall the recovery? If you did not do this you may have to FXZ back to stock JB and re-root all over again.
This might need to be posted in the opp as it is posted over in the HoB discussion thread if not in the OP over there.

I was stock JB, never rooted, and no safestrap before.
I downloaded a root checker and it says I do not have root.
I will try the FXZ route and see if It will re-root.

I got the same error when launching the superuser.app "There are currently no Superuser app policies"
I uninstalled the superuser app, rebooted, and re-go through again, but still get the same error.
So what have you uninstalled (i.e. what means 'everything')?
Thanks.
Im rooted...i uninstalled everything and reinstalled it and it all worked out...thanks
