Truth! Talking to the Cam Com folks gives me some tips on the how/when and why of the procedures, and hopefully a chance to be on hand for other 'significant' milestones.
I've now got a clue on how the old tower will be removed...you'll just have to stay tuned!
Also, meeting the Fire Marshall has given a better understanding of the how/when and why of the blasting operations.

They've cleared the trees all the way over to where the power lines run up to the old tower.

Which led me to nose around and find the other end of the new data cable coiled up where the old data cable probably runs.

I speculate that they'll do some kinda splice so they can keep the old tower going while they get the new one running and integrated.

Don't know who was up there or what they were doing. If'n you'd like I could ask the foreman for the crew that's building the new one how much they pay!

The former RV campground slots are being used for equipment staging and servicing by the maintenance truck guys and the mobile home park slots are used for material storage. There are slots with all kinds of pre-formed rebar pieces, metal concrete forms and today a truck load of pipe showed up. Maybe storm drain lines to go under the site?

Well, they were ready and I had the vid camera out, but this time they didn't shut down the freeway, so I missed the signal.
But...local CBS affiliate was there and had their camera running...I'll check their site tonight to see if there's anything worth posting a link here.

Since there are a huge oak tree and a very tall walnut tree across the road from my house, the new tower isn't visible from my front yard (yet?), but just north of me is a side road and from there I can see this...

The drills are finishing up along the layer below the rock wall and the Austin Powder folks are busy...looks like another shot later today.

And all of the tower sections have been moved from the weeds by the Honda shop. The stack of assemblies back by the black plastic are the 'ladders' that go up along the tower legs, there's also a stack of perforated plate decking and all of the tubular assemblies for each layer of transmitters.
I've learned that AT&T will be on the very top, VZW next down, then T-Mo and then Sprint on the bottom layer. The regional Fire Departments also use the tower for their comms.
