Decided the vertical towers aren't elevators but are guides or the mechanisms that raise the deck. Pallets of blocks are lifted by the JLG fork lifts into gaps in the hand rails.

Instead of the holes next to the Honda shop, decision made to tackle the shot down low near Lee highway, but this time using a whole lot of heavy blast mats to avoid flying debris.

Since this shot is fairly close to the Honda building they covered the charges with several loads of dirt and then covered it with the blast mats...worked well.

There has been 1100 feet of Jersey barriers alongside the I-81 freeway just inside the Armco guardrail near where I've been taking pics of the construction of the retaining wall near the future Lowes building from the breakdown lane. I never knew when it went in and learned today that's because 'they' required that work to be done after midnight, even though the Jersey barriers were moved into position from the project side of the fence.

Which makes sense since there was no retaining wall then. There is now. And for whatever reason 'they' decided that 9 am today was the time to close the breakdown lane and 1 lane of the freeway to retrieve the Jersey barriers - all 55 of them.

Nearly a mile of orange cones were positioned to guide traffic away from the work area, old rubber conveyor belts were positioned to protect the pavement from the tracks of the excavator and flatbed trucks moved into position. A large scissor clamp was hung from the bucket and away they went, one barrier at a time, three to a truck and 5 hours later Lewis was back out of the excavator and into his D-8 Cat dozer pushing big boulders down from the future Calhoun's restaurant pad.

Yep, there are pics!

After clearing the rubble humped up by the shot yesterday, the pipe crew has started a ditch for the sanitary sewer line. The citys water and sewer mains are along the other side of Lee Highway and the large steel pipes will be casings for the connections to the project. Much of this work will be done by boring equipment under the road but some small road cuts will be done on a midnight schedule.
