It seems likely that it would be a bad idea to have rain water running down your new retaining wall and soaking the ground beneath it into soft mud so here's a collection of piping and connectors...

Seems there's been a change in plans...after spreading and rolling the fill on the 4 mats they backed off bringing more mats down and began moving dirt on the far left and also scraped off the near edge of the last lift.

They installed drain piping in the trench at the far left, spread fill over the dirt and rolled it smooth then brought in longer mats to be arranged in an X pattern.

They've begun using a lighter weight sheet material to line the trench, then a layer of small gravel, then the pipe, then cover the pipe with more gravel and then fold the sheet over that before covering the trench. More of the sheet alongside the trench for tomorrow.

Last year I got a good pic of a flight of Canadian Honkers circling above a much taller hill and I've begun seeing them migrating again this year. I've watched them circle down somewhere south of the Cabela's site and since it was too muddy for work today, I decided to go find where they were going.

There's a good sized pond in the Spring Lakes neighborhood so I parked there and waited...

Lewis is operating the dozer and this is how he keeps the lifts the right height; there's a laser light level transmitter mounted on a tripod on the bank...

Which establishes a reference plane and that is sensed by the adjustable receiver mounted on the rod on the end of the dozer blade. THe receiver has Red-over-Green-over-Red signal lights which Lewis uses to know to raise or lower the blade as he moves the fill.
