Geez Tom... I never realized so much is involved in building a tower. Your exposé is spectacular.

And that's why cell service costs so much! Ha

Well, I guess we're a long ways past tower-building, but I became fascinated with the whole project and keep going back every day. The hill is nearly gone so 'building-building' should get started soon!
And that's why cell service costs so much! Ha

Naww...that's just AT&T and VZW! I just wish T-Mo had taken the opportunity to discover SW Virginia when the new tower went up.

Almost didn't hear that different style siren, hence out of focus and no time to describe anything.

THe shot Friday was set in two areas, the haul road over the rock wall and on the top on the north end...couldn't cover both but panned over to see all the dust from the second area.
Before and After for both areas and looking from inside near the Cabela's pad.

That huge foundation slab from under one of the old tower legs has been tipped, tumbled, beat up by hammers at different times and places, tipped and tumbled some more and is now down to the final level of the project site and it STILL hasn't been totally destroyed. As the various hammers move from one boulder pile to another they pause here and beat on it some more, but it is stubborn!

Edit: The next day a dozer laid another lift over the slab...

and then ran over it to beat down all the re-bar...prolly be buried with the next lift.

Working at getting the access road area from Lee highway cleared for future Cabela's construction, the 3-wall foundation is coming down and the road through the gate has been re-surfaced with small aggregate crushed rock from the screening plant.

Middle of GA, USA
The recent line of storms and subsequent high winds have brought the temps down today to about 57 °F (around 14 °C) but that is simply not cold enough for me. lol.

I guess johngalt wanting snow in GA isn't so strange...wish he could have ours!
And johnthe hillbilly, ya oughtta get yerself home for tomorrow...found out that the 'Event' for that tent up on the Cabela's pad is for the Governor to be here for a 'ceremonial signing' of the Bill that enabled the project to proceed after the legal shenanigans by a competing developer.
It's scheduled for 10AM and the public is welcome! (But they better plan on muddy boots after the weather today...and the forecast low in the morning is 26F...ugh!)

After the Special Event was concluded, Austin Powder finished charging the shot on the former haul road on the east face of the hill, but it ended up being two shots.
