Now they've got a scraper moving dirt near the strip mall and former RV Campground. All the mobile homes just over the hill have been removed.

There are probably folks in both Bristols that are skeptical about the Bass Pro and Cabelas projects financially...all I'm really interested in is how VZW's 4G signal will turn out!
Oh...and I also hope for a new Waffle House near Exit 5! lol

They are still blasting/hauling rocks away at the new site and yesterday a semi/low-boy showed up with the new tower support legs. Talked to the driver and he said 'No way!' was he gonna haul that low-boy up the new (Steep!) road in the pouring rain, so they off loaded him near the Honda shop at the base of the old tower hill.
Eighteen sections at 20 ft in length is nowhere near enough for the height the new tower is supposed to be, so there may be more low-boys en route.

And, yes...more tower parts the next day with smaller and smaller diameter for the upper sections. Lots of cross members for bracing and the cartons probably contain all the nuts and bolts.

Stopped to see Marty today and he let me know they had run a power line in to the new tower site so, of course, I had to go take a look! Ya gotta admit that this is the first time I got my finger in the way!

There was also a black cable laying on the ground following the path of the power line. Anyone recognize what this is used for, possibly video surveillance?

Sooo...they've finished blasting and made the pit deep enough for the base foundation slab. Into that first pour they installed three re-bar assemblies for the tower legs. They are arranging pre-fab forms around the re-bar for the next concrete pour and will probably install some kind of base plate at the top of the re-bar next.

We've also been hearing equipment running around elsewhere on the project site lately and today I could see where they have begun site prep for one of the stores.

Tom,
That cables is as stated is fiber optic's. They can run pretty much anything over it and given it's part number it looks like it has 24 strands!
Just one of them you can run 10Gb/s data over it, and that's just one light wave color as well. So they certainly can push serious data through it and video is trivial bandwidth for surveillance of the site.
Pretty cool project!

Would you think that they would use that cable for the 4 or 5 cell service providers that will use the tower? Maybe the 'control room' won't be located at the base of the tower?

Took a drive around to the east side of the new tower site to see where they cleared the trees/brush for the new Power lines.

And also to the east side of the hill with the old tower (can't get very close).
