well
i did get twrp back on
but no option to restore root. that appears to be in a later version of TWRP than what comes in the utility
is there a way to push the binaries for SU from within TWRP or fastboot?
thanks, getting closer

OK for ME, coming from a RazrM without the OTA. I followed the directions as I listed them a few posts
. the difference would be that I would replace the current twrp.img(ver 2.3.2.3) with the into the folder in matt's utility first. then when you reinstall TWRP and reboot it will ask about root and obtain it for you without issue. my problem was that thew utility has an older version of TWRP once this was replaced it was super easy thanks for everyone's help
if you need the updated SU files they are

This utility is awesome...ive used it to do everything possible with my phone... i eventually ended up with flying jelly and after a really good run i ran into trouble...through fault of my own kernel tweaking...anyways long story short i used your utility to return to stock as i had been rendered no other option...this is one of the greatest things about your tool...anyways ..I updated after the stock restore thinking it proper.....now of course utility doesnt root.....what course of action should i take?

Matt was talking about this on Twitter. He said he probably won't make a new one because there's no point. It's not unlockable and there's already a stand alone root exploit out. If you need to restore, just use the FXZ in RSD. If you need to root, look up Motochopper v1.1.

At the risk of sounding a jerk, you're posting everywhere (at least on xda) with links to your... Restore file? It's not gonna solve everyone's problems, and if you confuse the wrong person, they could very possibly brick... From my understanding of your OP, you're distributing a .XML.zip, not a utility... It's also not very easy to read... Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I have to agree about the readability. I AM trying to convey advanced restore tips along with the rsd restore steps. As well as making it readable for locked & unlocked....
Please I welcome you to point out any specific shortcomings which would come near to causing a brick.

No specific problems, but it's kinda more technical... Maybe not great for brand new users...I have to agree about the readability. I AM trying to convey advanced restore tips along with the rsd restore steps. As well as making it readable for locked & unlocked....

I'm trying to get it it, but not quite there yet... Any input would be appreciated it.
I have 4.1.2 System Version 98.18.78.XT907.
I've never rooted or unlocked the bootloader.
I'm bored with the phone and want to play... I'd like to have root and even try some different ROMs.
It seems from this thread that the utility is solid, yet it says at the top of
that I should not proceed with using the utility due to the OTA update I apparently have.
I've [tried to] read through
post, yet (somehow) couldn't follow it.
I'm just wondering whether or not, given my phone's current state/version, there's anything I can do to root, unlock, and flash roms?
Thanks to all for your knowledge!

Use
to root. You will not be able to unlock the bootloader though
