[SOLVED]SafeStrap not going into recovery no os on phone

xt807 safestrap no os motorola droid razr m help

Best Answer tucstwo , 24 April 2013 - 07:02 PM

OK, OFFICIALLY SOLVED! This member needed the 4.1.2 Razr M FXZ files that were pre-released this evening. (I'm sure a public release in imminent). When he flashed the (edited...to confirm previous version..in his case) he was able to get his phone fully restored and booting. Case CLOSED.

To those reading. The Razr M 4.1.2 FXZ files HAVE leaked and I'm sure will be on SBF developers within hours. Cheers!

I did the exact same thing you did, trying to put eclipse on stock. Wiped system and rebooted with no os. Then I did a restore with matt's utility, and did the exact same thing again. Haha. I had screaming kids everywhere and got in a rush in both cases. I powered downy phone, and did the three finger combo, power &volume up &volume down to get to the boot loader menu. Scrolled down to fast boot, selected it with the volume up button, plugged in and ran option 1 on both occasions. Brought me back to stock and good to go. Make sure you're using the RAZR M 1.10 utility. You might have issues if you run the older utility as it only had ICS restore, and not jelly bean. Also, if you hadn't already plugged your phone into the computer, you may not have the needed drivers. I'm not sure if it would go as far as you Id previously in the restore option, just a throwing ideas out there. Also, when running the restore option, you'll get most of the way through it and then it'll hang for a few moments. Don't panic, it didn't freeze. :-). Made me pretty nervous the first time at that point. Lol. I just wanted to chime in ticket you know I made the exact mistake you did, not once, but twice, and that your device isn't completely hosed. Don't stress yet!

Thanks man. I really hope this all works too. This download is painfully slow. It's like 128kbs. I wish there was just a torrent for it with a billion seeds :(

But i guess the fact of the matter is I guess since I have the ability to get into fastboot my device would never get fully bricked, right? Because worst case you could go back in and reflash the stock rom

Alright I tried flashing through RSD Lite, and I tried flashing and it came back with this:

For 4.1.1

Failed flashing process: 1/19 flash partition "gpt_main0.bin" > Phone returned FAIL

For 4.0.4

Failed flashing process: Unknown fastboot command. (getvar)

Oh man. That's trouble. Battery too low. You need either a "factory" or a flashing adapter at this point. I'm sorry. You're SOL with a dead battery. Without those hardware tools, there's very little we can do to help you at this juncture.

So what can I do...? I can't plug it in anywhere to charge? Can I take it back to verizon and get a new phone? What if I say it was stolen or some $#!+...? Like, what are my options?

You need to order a factory adapter from TeamBlackHat.  Just search Google, it should be the first option that pops up.  I ordered one last night, just to have one on hand.

I am seeing a common trend now.  There is a reason that every developer says to make sure the phone is fully charged, before attempting to flash/modify anything.

within the next week. I will get this phone fixed. If this thread gets closed or pruned before I get the adapter I will make a new thread if needed. The thing is, once I get it, and i flash the stock rom successfully, will it overwrite safestrap? or how can I reflash the stock recovery?

Actually, I had this exact same problem.  Completely identical, down to the low battery failure when running Matt's utility.  I left my phone plugged into a wall charger on the black screen for the day and it charged enough to run the utility no problems.  You can order the adapter just in case (it's only $10), but try leaving it plugged in for a few hours before you do anything drastic.

+1, charged up is the most important factor. What u do from here is your choice based on your ethics. But its not repairable without an adapter or replacement, if you think toy can convince them that the error is a defect on materials and workmanship. I can't make ur mind up for you though. But be assured, there is definitely no "immediate" solution.

God, this exact thing happened to me too. Luckily my battery was high enough since I had it in the whole time that the RSD flashing worked. Good luck man.

question: Do you need the cable AND the adapter, or just can the adapter be used with the stock cable in place of the factory cable?

Unless you unlocked your phone, your stock recovery is still there (actually just an option or two below fastboot). Safestrap kind of just bypasses it, I'm not entirely sure how it works. I believe Matt's utility also wipes your data, so yes, you'll lose safestrap, but it's easily re-installed.

No, an adapter can just be put in line with a regular cable. You don't need both.

It uses a hijack during the booting process. This is why it's referred to as a bootstrap recovery. And you are correct unless the bootloader is unlocked, the factory recovery always remains I'm it's partition unless it becomes corrupted. In that situation, fastboot or RSD could flash only a signed copy of the original file. The fastboot files as we call them.

When you get it fixed I would suggest getting rid of safe strap and just unlock the boot loader.

OK, just ordered my adapter - don't need it now, but who wants to wait until you do? :)

@lowvolt - if I uninstall Safestrap, I'd lose my custom recovery, so what would I do for backing up my ROM, etc? Ummm. dumb question, I suppose. There's probably a way to install a recovery without Safestrap, I'd guess. Or it's something you can do once you are unlocked. Never been unlocked before in the same way.

Never mind - of COURSE - you can flash a custom recovery to the recovery partition using fastboot. Doh! - I need to go to bed for a while lol.

After you unlock you can install a real custom recovery like TWRP which is just like s's or cwm which is kinda like stock recovery
