I'm rooted on 12.04 LTS.  Make sure you update first. I was having issues (no errors).  It would go through the whole process just fine with no errors and no root.  After updating the OS, it worked first time.

apt-get update

woohoo!!! this worked!!!

So for the 64 bit people that have adb.linux missing errors, it's because adb is 32 bit.  If the command I gave fails for you, then your architecture is probably different than mine so you may have to do some research into figuring out how to run 32 bit stuff in your install.  Sorry, that's the best I can give you.  But until you fix that error, IT WILL NOT WORK no matter how many times you run it.

You were right on the money, Sam. Once I gave up on the 64-bit and ran the 32-bit LiveCD instead, things went very smoothly.

Thank you Sam.

Thank you Bionic Community.

Thank you djrbliss.

Root gained.  Promise kept.  Donation sent!

Argh.  You have and old su binary from before you lost root on there I see.  I'd ALMOST recommend flashing system.img from the 98.72.22 FXZ before trying again.  JUST the system.img though.  I don't if that's causing a problem but I'd at least try.

After flashing the system.img, I have root working. Thanks :)

I'm thinking this is my problem.  I've never flashed just one img before.  Is it much different than normal fxz or do I have to fastboot that sucker?

Fastboot flash system system.img

For some reason, when I try downloading samba it says this:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

How do I fix this?

Yea! I was able to restore my notes and bookmarks I lost when I bricked my phone trying to go back to ICS.

Lesson learned.

Question: I now have 2 Superuser Apps, one is an Android pirate, the other is a "#". Is this going to create a conflict?

Thank you to all who had a hand in bring this about Samuri for the HoB and  DJRBliss for figuring this out in the first place I got Mad Respect for what you do sorry your out of the game it's a huge lose to us.

Well after I $#!+ canned the 64 bit and installed the 32 bit guess what it wouldn't boot on my win 8 64 bit toshiba bastard.  Lucky for me I have an older toshiba running win 7 and it booted on that.  10 min later root.  I had to do it twice because it is confusing at the end.

once you run dameon it immediately reboots once it completely reboots you push a volume button then hit enter it will reboot again and then I had root.  It was beautiful seeing rom tool box ask for root permission.

I'm thinking this is my problem.  I've never flashed just one img before.  Is it much different than normal fxz or do I have to fastboot that sucker?

Well, if you open the *.xml file inside the FXZ directory and take a peek at it, you'll see that it's just a script that uses fastboot to push the appropriate img to the appropriate partitions. I never really realized that until last year (The first time I had a phone that used FXZ files)

Anyway, you could copy that xml and delete all the files except the relevant system.img file from the script and feed that into RSDLite, or you could do it manually with the fastboot from a command line.

I've got a couple versions of the .246 xml on my hard drive for full wipe, for saving data and sd, for just saving sd, and so on. It's pretty easy to just pick and choose the particular level of reset you want that way when you run RSD

Ok Sam your opinion please. which would be the best route to take now that there is an exploit. I'm running a deodexed .246 in my stock slot so OTA is outa the question. will it be better to fxz .246 and reroot and voodoo and attempt ota jb, or fxz .22 and root with the current exploit?

Either is valid. If you want to take the 246 route please wait until tomorrow as I have a new version of the house of bionic that should help keep root through the ota. Otherwise use the 22 fxz and root with this exploit. It works fine.
