Latin America. Brazil and Canada are the same region for the razr, and the Brazil release is probably cleaner than the rogers version.

That's where the rom came from.

Amazing and it's Outstanding.

I did tried this technique on my Razr XT910 (India Mobile). This mobile was running with ICS GSM IND Version and later it was rooted and got installed O2 JB Retail GSM Version. Installing that took my root. Honestly saying i would have tried at-least 20 methods to root the JB around 100 times till date but nothing worked.

Yesterday i did tried installed VM Virtual-box on my Windows 7 and then tried that option and even that didn't work but the procedure was same mentioned here in this form but didn't work. Bcoz as this thread mentioned it will not work on windows only on Linux machine. The same i know from the point when i start to root the JB but i was not familiar on Linux so i was keep trying on the windows but then i preached myself to try on Linux. Created a partition and installed Ubuntu x64 bit and then followed the steps mentioned here.

Flawless. Everything worked as mentioned.

Thanks a ton for developing this method and for the clear explanation how to perform this.

Outstanding. Thanks again. Keep Rocking on upcoming techniques on Android world.

You need a different exploit for the xt912....you need this one:

Try this:

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

Then do the sudo ./run.sh again.

Package not found.  I'm on 13.04 and the package name is ia32-libs-multiarch.  I was also having the same ./adb.linux permission error.  I'm on a 32-bit arch.

Problem was, I forgot that I'd securing the /tmp directory and can't execute from that location, so I copied the "share" folder to my home directory, edited the location in the smb.conf file, restarted smbd, reconnected to the remote share from the phone, etc., ran the command without issue.

Many thanks.

Edit--

After connecting my phone to the remote storage, the phone now call the mapped drive rfs1.  This caused the script to through an error as the script tries to execute "pwn" on the drive rfs0 (which now no longer is the correct drive.  Edit the run.sh script and replace the rfs0 with whatever you droid is mapping the device as.

Also, I had to remove all traces of Superuser and SuperSU and Voodoo Root retainer(or whatever it was called.)  After I'd done all that, the script ran without a flaw.

I desperately need some help here, guys. Somehow, my phone got fubard, and I don't know how. I fell asleep one night, phone was working fine, sort of. Woke up about an hour or so later and the thing wouldn't boot. Had to fxz back to stock Jelly Bean and am now stuck with a non-rooted phone. I've tried the root exploit posted on this thread, but for whatever reason it just isn't working for me. I'm actually trying to perform this root with my laptop which has a version of Ultimate Edition 3.5 32-bit installed on it. I followed all the steps, but got stumped at this one:
Host IP address: [your Linux machine's IP address]
Domain name:            WORKGROUP
Shared folder name:     share
User:                 guest
Password:             [the password you created above]

When I get to this step, the screen on my phone doesn't have the fields where I'm supposed to enter this information, but since I'm doing this directly from a laptop that's already running Ubuntu, it shouldn't matter. I don't have a wifi network setup at home, so I can't use any method requiring me to connect the phone to an IP address. At any rate, I run the sudo ./run.sh command at the end of the motoshare 2 tutorial, the script runs saying it's doing its applying root thing then asking me to push a hardware button on the phone and wait for it to vibrate. I push, I wait, but no vibrate. Am I not waiting long enough or something? I don't have a lot of apps that require root  access, with the exception of My Backup Root and maybe one or two others, but I do have a lot of apps in general that'd take forever to re download, plus there's the never being able to try out new ROMs again:( I'm praying that someone comes out with a one-click method soon, but I guess all I can do is wait.

You need WIFI to initiate the share.

Like I said above, I'm doing it directly through a laptop that's running Ubuntu. I was under the impression the Samba share setup was only necessary  if you're doing it over a network of some kind. I'm not.

It requires the use of the remote storage function of your files apk. The only way to do that is through the samba share. It will not work otherwise.

I tried to apply the settings in the Files app, but it doesn't give me the options to apply the settings in the setup.

So, you don't see Files->Remote Storage->Add Storage button?  After you click the Add Storage button you'll see the area you're looking for to add the entries.

That being said, it doesn't matter whether you see that screen or not if you're not on a network with the linux laptop, more precisely, the same network.  If you are just plugged in locally and not on the same LAN or wifi network, you're phone will never see the REMOTE file share(samba share) on you laptop.

Its is.  Otherwise you wouldn't need samba and therefore wouldn't need to run a flavor of linux or unix or OSX/bsd to accomplish the hack.  You could just use Winbloze.

One click root not possible on windows many have tried. As has been said you need both WiFi connection and USB connection on USB 2....not USB 3

I tried following the steps for Jelly Bean root, but I think the samba share thing may be holding me back. I know how to do it, that's not the problem. The problem is, I don't have a wifi setup at home, so I wouldn't be able to connect to the Ubuntu live image even if I could set up my Files app the way I'm instructed to. When I go to the section in the Files app to input the information, I don't have all the fields show up for the necessary information. Plus I have a version of Ubuntu running on my laptop that shouldn't require a wireless connection between my phone and the computer, since I can just plug the thing into it. I know this method has worked for many people, and I'm not exactly a noob, my first Android phone was the very first one, the G1. With each Droid style phone I got, I had it rooted within either hours or days, so I am capable of doing it. Also, I know there either isn't a one-click method yet or if there is I can't find it, but is there a way to circumvent the whole samba thing so I don't have to mess with the wifi connect? Finally, and thank you for your patience in reading such a long text, worst case scenario; if I were to try to fxz back to ICS stock (I know it'd more-than-likely brick my phone), is there an unbrick method for those of us who've let themselves spend way to much time obsessing over their phone (I tend to get a little tunnel visioned when it comes to this stuff), or would I be totally screwed? As many on this forum, thanks for all the hard work, and I apologize in advance if I seem a little whiny about this. I should point out that even without the wireless connection between the phone and the computer, the program still runs and displays the terminal screen that roots the phone. It stops just a few lines after the "push a hardware button" phase to make it vibrate. It never vibrates, but Superuser does get copied to the phone, it just install the binaries for it.

I just want to let people know that if you use Windows, you can boot Linux in a virtual machine such as VM Box or VMWare Player.  If you already have virtual-machine software installed, this may be easier than creating a live-boot USB stick, especially if you already have a Linux client system (appliance).  I created a new (32-bit) appliance for this purpose and everything went smoothly.

Thanks, Dan.  It sure is nice having Titanium Backup and Droid Firewall working again!

i tried to flash back to ics, didnt work, wouldnt boot so i just flashed back to jb, no brick here.

next i tried ubuntu method, after 7 hours, live disk, full install, googling, reading 100's post, trying dozens of commands, it seems there is no way to get the lib 32 file (or whatever) from the first line of the process. it has been merged and obsoleted from what i read and tried.

last i tried the virtual box method, and other than me having the phone plugged in when i wasnt supposed to (dont plug it in until it tells you, read that afterwards) it worked flawlessly on the first try.

if you have an old phone you can use for wifi or a friends, i used the wifi on my rmhd and it worked fine.

So I have a NAS at home and was able to connect to it even with credentials.  I cat'd the run.sh and run the steps manually on a Windows machine.  At the point where I shell into the Bionic and execute "pwn" on the rfs0 mountpoint (with the "1" parameter) my device reboots, but no root.  If I try to su at a shell prompt, I get "permission denied".  If I reboot the device again, su seems to be simply missing.

Has anyone else been able to manually perform the steps and get this working?  Maybe the version of "pwn" I'm using is out of date? (I downloaded from the OP).

Thanks!
