I started ubuntu.  but there is no share folder under tmp

You need to create one. It is in the steps. Keep in mind that the tmp directory will get deleted when you reboot.

Pixel 2 XL, Pixel XL, Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 7,  Samsung GS3, Bionic, OG Droid, SCH-i760, a flip phone or two, and a few others.

Do you have any more information to work with here?  Are you trying the manual method or the Virtual Box?  What steps did you follow?  What steps did you skip? (because I have a feeling that you missed something, otherwise there would be a folder there :) )

If you are looking for support, make sure to provide as much information as you can.

Great walk-through!! Just rooted my XT910 in 5 minutes. I'm running Ubuntu 64-bit, but used a 32-bit version from Live-CD.

Are you on a Bionic?

yes, on a bionic.  i tried using other file managers like Astro and AndSMB to mount the samba share.  I was able to view the remote files fine, but the script in the VirtualBox image always failed at

/system/bin/sh: pwn: not found

I'm guessing because those file managers either don't mount the remote folder in the correct way (same place as Motorola's Files app), or in the same spot as the script is looking.  I edited the script to also look in the folder that I set AndSMB to mount to, but got the same error.  When I then downloaded the files (using AndSMB) to the directory I had set AndSMB to mount to, the script ran and said the permissions were wrong rather than "not found" (which is basically what I expected cause you're not supposed to download the files).

Any help would be great.

The exploit HAS to run thru the stock files apk or it will not get the correct perms. If your Bionic is indeed on JB fresh from an FXZ, there is no reason it shouldn't be there.

Please post a screen shot of about phone.

yea don't worry about it.  on a whim I checked that the fxz actually took.  was still on ICS.  There's a bad link in Obsidian's thread as far as I can tell.  the first link under "**98.72.22 FXZ Link**To be used with RSD Lite(Will Format Internal Memory)" is 469mb second is 432 mb.  I used the second 432mb file to fxz.  I'm going to try again with the first, and I don't expect there to be any issues.

Thanks for the help though guys.

Yea serves me right for assuming the link was fine and not checking md5/filename, but oh well.

It's all good.  At least you were able to figure it out easy enough.  Good luck!

That was why I hinted at whether you were truly on JB . Glad it all worked out. Often times it is the simple things that get us :)

This is what I get when I press "Connect" after entering all of the information under the "Add Storage" on my phone.

"There is a problem in your network connection with remote host. Please repair your network connection and try again"

I have confirmed the computer and phone are on the same WiFi network and I have disabled 4G/3G on my phone. I also have tried restarting both devices, and starting the process over again.

I have tried wired / plugged in and the phone in "Media Device" mode and I have also tried unplugged.

Yes I have USB debugging enabled.

Any suggestions?
