Your samba package isn't complete. I suggest trying to update prior to running the install samba
Thanks I'm downloading ubuntu v12.10 right now and will see if it works in there

ok i think i'm making this much harder than I have to...macosx already has SMB file sharing so i might not even need samba
but i really do need a new battery or something, this POS keeps turning itself off randomly

OH! I'm AMAZING! I got remote storage set up withOUT samba now to move on to the next steps..AND IT IS DONE!!! FIRST PERSON IN THE WORLD TO ROOT JB OTA ON MAC THANK YOU SAM AND THANK YOU DJRBLISS! i will try to help anyone else who needs to root using a mac it's waaay easier than setting up all this samba nonsense.

just to be thorough here are the results of run.sh on my mac
not sure the cleaning up matters but if it does i can do it manually through terminal. Anyway the phone rebooted fine and I have superuser and root access. Already backed up with voodoo.
