What device are you on XT875 or XT910
Yes, system.img is generally part of the fastboot files or fxz or sbf whatever you may refer to them as.
For my XT912, I have 6 img files (boot, motoboot, preinstall, radio, recovery and system) there are also bin files as well.
Obviously, your device may be slightly different.

Thanks again Dan!
Maybe this would be a good time for me to create a thread teaching members who are interested ,on how to set up a simple Linux environment.
Also your donation is greatly appreciated, every little bit counts for those folks.

That would be awesome! I'm a bit intimidated by what is involved having zero Linux experience .I haven't even tried to go to OTA on my main bionic..backup kept root..but my main is a little.. yeah...it would loose root no matter how much I protect it!
Sent from my BLU flying spyder that likes jellybeans
Jayrod, I don't think you would have any huge problem here. I knew zero about ubuntu before I started messing with the samba exploit to root my wife's D4 with the Atrix method. Sam has taught us Bionic users well to read, read and read again.

That backup tester you sent is smarter than my main...bless it's microchip heart!
I'll probably move forward to OTA this weekend, even though it's already running 4.2. I'm probably making this scarier than it is..and I do have a bunch of info here and with many from the community.

Besides you can hit me or Kaos up any time. We'll walk you through it if you need help. Give it a shot though. See what happens.

FXZ to JB, installed Ubuntu as dual boot, ran scripts, step by step, and it worked the first time. ONLY issue was phone kept vibrating, and vibrating, no matter what I did. I told phone to restart and found I have root;-) Finally, thanks Sam and others who helped. Ubuntu, 32 bit, dual boot, line by line, MTP mode, and no issues.
I did have an error with JB (kept my root). Tried bootstrap to see if it would boot as SS would not. So after the dumb "Encryption failed" error I had to push system and preinstall from 246 then boot into recovery, then install JB update from there. Enter rants, rages, and after an FXZ and following steps it worked. ONE thing I did do though was to get out of the SAMBA share on phone, unplug phone (USB), re-enter that share folder on phone, then plug back in. Wanted to make sure phone was ABSOLUTELY be detected. Thanks again Dan/Sam/those who contacted Dan.

When I get to the part to; Open the "Files" app and select "remote storage". Click "add storage" fill in the necessary fields as stated. I get the following error: "There is a problem in your network connection with remote host. Please repair your network connection and try again."
I'm not sure what I have wrong. Wireless is on, phone not plugged in to pc. Ubuntu box is not wireless but connected to a wireless router, I can ping it from another pc that's wireless.
Any help?

Are you by chance running Ubuntu 12.04? I had the same problem until I updated to 12.10. Old version of Samba?

Eagle. You didn't use a long password did you? If so, shortening it made that error go away for me.

Yes to this as well. The password is not magic. Keep it simple. Its only for your temp share.
