I kid the mac users.  Just because they bought a unix machine with training wheels that don't come off.  TEHEHEHE.  :D

Bwahahaha that was funny.

It looks like a few of you are creating a guest account in Linux and setting the password properly, but are NOT adding the user to the samba allowed users. This would absolutely prevent you from mounting the share

It's something like smbuser -a guest
Then smbpasswd guest guest
Then restart samba as the directions say to

I haven't done it for a while and I have a 2 year old stepping on my face. This is from squished face memory, so check my syntax with: "man smbuser" and "man smbpasswd"

Maybe this would be a good time for me to create a thread teaching members who are interested ,on how to set up a simple Linux environment.

Nah, we'll all just send our devices to you and you can do it for us.......

Wait..... as long as we got them back before our t-shirts went live....... (sorry, had to bust your b^$3's for fun ! You got lots going on, I know)

Also your donation is greatly appreciated, every little bit counts for those folks.

An up to date how to on setting up a basic *nix environment would be great, since so many users are unfamiliar with it in every way

Amazing Dan! Worked like a charm on a XT910. For the peepz who can't get it working because they are running windows. It's really easy to make an ubuntu installation which will run from USB. Just use google. don't use a virtual machine or you will run into problems with your samba address referrals. Nice!

Thank you this worked great!! I was doing great on the OTA with root kept but got upset at the annoying "GuiException detected: Abnormal situation Code wifi_login_screen_required/ null" and decided to FXZ back with data wipe, cleared internal and formatted SD Card and of course lost root . Of course I STILL have the error to top it all off...

Thanks Dan for the Bionic JB root.  $15 just donated.  And thanks to others for the potential support you would have offered me, but Dan's instructions worked great for me just now.

At home, FXZ works now. Step 22 of 23.  Then will use my handy USB Ubuntu I made last night and give it another go on absolutely fresh JB.  Will let you know Sam.  Thanks to everyone who helps us out.

running an installed version of ubuntu 12.10 now.

I have a new version of Superuser installed, parallel to the old one which I can't get rid of somehow, when I open it, it says it needs to be updatet, but when I try to update it, it fails with a not further explained error.

First off, are you using the updated package that Dan put up this morning?  He implemented a protocol for existing superuser's.  If so and you are still having issues, you may need to flash system.img and go again.

Many thanks. Just a note, if check which location Files mounts the share one. Mine was on /storage/rfs1, so I had to do a little modification of the script.

Okay so I really hat asking this, I hate it myself when people can't google properly...but I'm probably not experienced enough with all the advanced stuff and phones, because I can't find the frickin' system.img

It should be in the fastboot files, right? Well, can't find it anywhere in there...

So as I said, kinda embarassing for me, but it would be so awesome if someone could link where to find the system.img

edit: oh yeah right, i did use the updatet package.
