True I will try to do own for both if I can. I too had many of the VM difficulties that were mentioned with the prior method, but I was able to overcome them so hopefully I can avoid those same issues.
The livecd can bring some of the same difficulties so be sure to do some reading.Read on the Atrix HD thread mentioned on XDA forum. Not bad, funny Sam mentioned "Samba exploit looks more promising" on an XDA forum I saw. Easier and safer too, rather than reveal another exploit, SAVE those card until needed (if needed, and if offering to us). Especially if an old one (exposed) works. To those who asked Dan, thank you too. This literally relieved a LOT of stress. I think I posted that once I saw Dan was looking at it for everyone that it would get done.
One who specializes in security can also use that knowledge;-) Great skills to have. I can network, build PC, solder, follow directions, mod, BUT coding is always my weakness. I have the UTMOST respect for the coders. Might give Sam crap but others make him mad a LOT more;-) Right Sam?
EDIT: I went to reply, MUST have found a fun way to mess with somebody there. To make it appear THEY sent a message. SORRY livinginkaos. Most would hopefully see this was an accident. Thanks for telling me the Ubuntu version.--Changed text to red just to be clear.

Do you play poker using the same name as you have on here? I had to ask, lol. Also, Ubuntu going okay. I miss using it. I am always amazed as how much better Linux runs than windows. I remember in college seeing guys using command line Linux. Windows were a DISEASE to them. The directions on Atrix HD do not bother me. Watch, I will be sitting at work when this hits and dread sitting at work, lmfao.

The Original post will most likely be edited for you with a donate link when the "claimant" posts the root info. So just sit tight until it posted.
If you just can't WAIT, lol send your donation to
.

I don't believe it matters. But if you can start a 64 bit, I would just for consistency with the newest stuff.

for the "red headed step child" device, i think the bionic has one of the most amazing and tight knit communities, and i am very happy/proud to be apart of it.. but all of this would be mostly non existent without the likes of you, Dan.. we honestly can't thank you enough.. and i wish it could be more, but im in for $10

**So ive always held out on adding a donate link because this is just something i do for enjoyment.. but i have received a few requests recently to add one.. so if you enjoy my work and would like to buy me a beer or put some gas in my car, that would be very much appreciated.. but please continue to freely enjoy my mods without any feeling of obligation what-so-ever.. the last thing i want by adding this is for people to stop using my mods because they fell obligated.. Thanks

Also in for $10. Thanks, Dan!
I encourage everybody who can to make at least a small donation, whether you were able to maintain root or not. Having an exploit available just in case you may have to flash system at some point makes everything much less stressful, and that peace of mind is worth something, imho.

call me twice as good as Luniz, cuz I got $10 on it.
like DLuke said, the Bionic community has been pretty incredible considering how much we've been neglected by the rest of the world. other than a question here or there on a few sites, I've never been all that active in discussions, but I'm happy to put my money where my mouth is and show my support for the people who make my Bionic world go round.
I've never had any real experience with Linux, but about a year ago I was bored and decided to partition my HD and install a OpenSUSE. I haven't touched it much since then. is it a difficult process to install one distro over another?

I was one of the lucky ones I guess and was able to keep root. That said, one day I may need/want to FXZ so I'd love to see this too.
I wish I had more to offer but I don't ATM so sign me up for a $10 min.

Count me in for a minimum of 10, and a minimum of 10 on behalf of johnlgalt. And many thanks, djrbliss, for everything you do for our community
OMFG - dude, you're amazing, thank you so much!
Sigh. I'm about to eat my own words, but sometimes I just can't resist. One of the exploits I've already published leverages a vulnerability that continues to affect this device. I'll release a new version that roots this build (and probably the Jelly Bean build for XT910) in the next few days.
For the record, it still amazes me how many people fail at keeping root access during an OTA update. Please be more careful in the future, because my previous statement still stands: there might not be a "next time".
I agree with you 100% - but I also see the flip side.
1) OTA fails miserably and the only way to fix is to FXZ.
2) 3 different superuser and su binary combinations out there to play with - I, for one, tested with Koush's newer superuser and su binaries just to verify that they worked after losing root on an update to my ASUS Transformer Infinity 64 GB tablet using the same combination. On the tablet, VooDoo says I have a backup and attempts to restore said backup - but therre is no backup b/c ASSU OTAs just wipe /system and copy the new files instead of patching like Moto does.
I do agree with you and Sam and a whole slew of other people that from now on unlock(-ed, -able) phones are the only way to go....
In the spirit of things and to help boost the donations to djrbliss, I have decided that I am going to incorporate a giveaway into this bounty as well. All those who follow thru with their pledge within 7 days of an exploit posting, will be entered. I don't have the item details yet, but I think you guys know, I aim to please . I will update the OP once I have more details.
Dan, THANK YOU. There really are no words that can effectively portray the gratitude involved. Even those who protect root thru the OTA benefit in knowing that if they botch their root for whatever reason, that there is a way to gain it again when there is a viable exploit. People can be smart, when they are not stupid, and we all reach the stupid now and then and it only takes once.
100% agreed. Plus, there are those odd situations when the protection simply does not work, for whatever reason....
The only reason I would lean toward a bootable USB stick over VM is that I have already (with the other phone that uses this exploit) seen people have problems with the Linux VM seeing their device. But whatever seems easier to the end user I suppose.
Yeah, VM is more hit than miss, but it does miss.
I'm going ot contact Dan again about the method I previously asked about building for the exploit he put out for the RAZRs. I lost track of where the status was on that before, but I'll get in contact with him and make a slightly easier method for doing all of this once he releases the exploit.
I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. This is designed for an Ubuntu or at least a compatible to Ubuntu distro.
READ AS: Only tested on Ubuntu
Yeah, As long as the correct components are there any distro should (theoretically) work.
FWIW, Dan has never been the type to act like it's all about the money. So I wouldn't sweat. You could be much worse and be the type to pledge money and then not come through. That is the worst type of person. I would think it's better to be honest and say "Thank you so much, this is very much appreciated, but I can't afford to donate right now." Rather than to say, "I'll give you 25 bucks" And then just weasel your way out. Don't sweat it "John".
I think I'm tearing up : sniff sniff. LOL!
This is great news for everyone!
So true. He's awesome in that respect....
