Just an FYI for those interested, i just found out yesterday that the best way too flash any rom too your UNLOCKED M is STILL by using SS, NOT TWRP or CWM as of yet. Not certain as too why but this method has now worked for me on ALL of our M Roms on my unlocked where the others failed?? Just thought you might want too know.

But then, we are so very limited to only the left over space we have on our internal storage. That really sucks because I use a crap load of apps.

not unless you flash it to the stock slot. after doing so, I had all my space back.

Then can you restore from TWRP backup if something goes wrong?

I have not unlocked bootloader yet, so I cannot comment as to that. I might unlock bootloader soon - and when I do, I'll probably go with CWM (that is what I was used to when on the Charge). but my presumption is that I can flash the stock ROM slot backup from SS via CWM with after uninstalling SS.

ss backups aren't compatible with CWM but they will work in twrpI have not unlocked bootloader yet, so I cannot comment as to that. Unless you flash a rom like cm10 then it won't boot when you restore to the stock slot.

If you have a stock boot.img it won't be a problem

just to clarify I had a SS backup of cm10 and I tried to restore it from TWRP and guess what? I got a bootloop, luckily I was able to go into TWRP and restore a backup I had made in TWRP.

Hello. I can't get twrp or cwm to work. When I try to back up my rom it goes to the robot with the red triangle above it. : . Safestrap only has 2 options: install recovery or uninstall recovery. I don't see how this program helps with flashing. Is there a faq for first timers on how to flash roms on to the razr m?

Hey, give us a little background on your device so we can point you the right direction. Is your boot loader unlocked? Which software version is your phone on? 4.1.1 or 4.1.2?
Safestrap isn't meant to be used in conjunction with either twrp or cwm. Safestrap is a special recovery for use on phones that have locked boot loaders. Twrp or cwm are used on the RAZR m only after unlocking the boot loader.
The methods for flashing ROMs is a little different depending on if you are unlocked or not, and also depends on which recovery you're using

After you flash the custom recovery, you need to reboot to recovery so the updater script will override the stock recovery. When you reboot to recovery the first time, it will take you to the dead robot. Hold volume down and tap volume up at the same time, this will take you into recovery.

TWRP 2.4 alpha was working great on flashing roms... but the only major bug i noticed is it wont restore the data folder from a backup... so i went back to using the 2.3.2.3. i recommend using that one instead. if you have a rom working already with safestrap... just got into safe strap make a backup of it and save it to your external sd card... than install twrp 2.3.2.3 and wipe all 3 times including internal storage... than go back to restore and restore the back up you made.. only works on 2.3.2.3
- Download
- Extract it to your Desktop
-
Replace twrp-recovery-scorpion_mini.img for
-
In the folder Hold Shift key down and right click
-
Click on Open Command Window Here
- Turn off your device. Turn on the device and keep holding volume down until a menu shows up. It should say "Fastboot" under Unlocked.Press Volume Up to enter fastboot mode. Plug the device into your computer. If you have the right drivers installed, then your computer should detect the device and install all the right drivers. Run the following command via the command line:
- fastboot flash recovery twrprecovery2.3.2.3.img
- fastboot reboot

Idk if you know or not but the ss app itself just installs or uninstalls ss to get into ss you have to reboot your phone and it opens up before your phone boots
