hmmm did everything as instructed no errors in terminal emulator..rebooted still dont have root hmmm? did i miss something ..now when i did the ota ics leak i did the voodoo roote keeper ...i did protect my roote but i didnt try to unroote before ics. is that a problem.

Not really an option, you can't reach root files in ES nor operate ROM Manager without root acess, so no, it's nothing you did.

I initially had problems after flashing where running su in the terminal emulator would return Permission Denied after 10 seconds or so and none of my applications using root worked correctly. I had used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to backup my root as well and did not temporarily unroot.

Is anyone still having this problem? I've found a solution but if no one is having the problem, I don't see any reason to release it.

I will contact you by private message as it needs to be tested by a problematic phone.

However, I have gotten it to work by hand and have tested my automated method on my phone.

If it works for you, I'll post it for anyone to use.

I am gonna try to flash back to .173 on a clean slate install voodoo again, root, and sideload ics. If I can't keep root I can wait for the official or a sure way of rooting is found.

OMG FINALLY....

I re flashed, installed voodoo, went through terminal and finally got it back. I wonder if it had anything to do with my phone being plugged into a computer.

Thanks for the write up! Worked great.

Restored back to .174, rooted, and installed voodoo. backed up root
Installed ICS and actually did a combo of using voodoo to restore and d hackers method.
Also I did not "temp unroot" only backed up using voodoo.

Its nice having native screen shot!

Um, help??? I just read this whole thread and saw nothing about this error. I did back up su before update, voodoo even says the back up is there and that my phone is rooted but it's not. Su-backup is on my phone as well but I keep getting this.

These steps worked for me. Big thanks to PC!! I had to do it a couple of times because i missed some key spaces in the code. This sequence and the spacing is critical. Maybe this is elementry but it was the difference for me. The red _ below signify where the spaces go in the commands.
  • /system/su-backup
  • mount_-o_rw,remount_-t yaffs2_/dev/block/system_/system
  • cp_/system/su-backup_/system/bin/su
Hope this helps a bit and isnt too noob to point out.

Also, you can verify that you have the su-backup in your system folder using root explorer before starting to ensure that it exists. Might save some time.

I didn't forget it, I stopped typing the command when I got the no permission error. I'm trying to figure out why that happened before I go further. This method has not worked for me yet. If anyone knows what that error means and can help me I would appreciate it.
