I never said its not risky, but then again its worth a try before you go out and spend $40 on a cable when you could have fixed it just fine without. Obviously if your battery is too low this is going to fail, but its worth at least trying before it completely dies, and if it does die, then buy a factory cable

$40 on a cable?!?!?! Ten bucks for the adapter a Team BlackHat.

After trying the ota jb update and it failing, I then tried to manually installing the christmas leak from stock recovery. (I had safestrap installed and rooted prior and uninstalled and unrooted because I knew the OTA update was coming and thought this was reason for failure )In the manual update It failed and said something about kindle.apk update failed. ( status 7 )I had deleted kindle prior. I had to reroot and reinstalled kindle to sys/app then retried. Well that was bad idea. Then the update failed farther along in the process and then was stuck in a bootloop. I had to leave my phone home today and I guess it was still on. I downloaded Matts 1.82 utility and kept getting stuck because battery was low and would not charge. I followed this tutorial and ran through Matts bat file line by line and switched back to a wall charger three times and got the stock 4.04 back up and running! Thank you so much ntborup
I was worried I had a brick. Thank you again. Now I will let my phone charge before trying the 4.1.2 update again...

Could mean a couple of things including not following the instructions or not getting the button timing correct, usually one of those two. Sometimes it can take me multiple tries to get into fastboot mode, normally its real easy, and when its hard, its very hard.

All I can suggest is just keep trying the timing of holding and letting go of the buttons

Getting to your menus works best if you hold the desired volume key press and release the power button while still holding the volume key. If you hold the power button too long it will override the volume key so all it takes is just a one push.
