Not always and the one is very very small anyways. So i would NOT suggest ppl doing it with the one file only. IMO better safe then sorry using both so you don't have to fully start over again

This. The reason people are having so many issues is because they're straying away from the known good method and trying their own ways or simply ignoring steps thinking they aren't necessary.

Have you ever flashed anything previously? If yes factory wipe from stock recovery and rsd. Your partitions might be jacked up. The update will not fail unless you're on a corrupt system, are on the wrong version, are doing it wrong or have a defective phone.

Couldn't agree more. Back in my flip phone Razr days of hacking ppl tried to do the same thing and wondered why they had issues. Fact is instructions on not posted by us for our health they are done for a REASON. And if ppl would do EXACTLY as stated odds are the will NOT have issues.

Exactly, for some reason people tend to ignore instructions in a particular order; first they ignore the big, bold, red instructions. Then the ones that say "** IMPORTANT **". Then, anything in full caps.

The build that we leaked is not a final build. With this in mind I wiped pretty much everything before installing. I took any of MY files off my internal memory and backed them up; and when I say 'my' files I mean anything I personally added. Music, pictures, etc. Anything the system created like apps, support files, etc. were NOT kept. I then wiped my internal memory, did a factory reset, RSD'ed back to stock, cleared cache (not necessarily in that order), then flashed the update. This was done to ensure I had nothing GB related in my system when flashing the leak, and I STILL have minor issues. I knew it would, and wanted to remove as many potential issues as possible right off the bat. Because of this I would be willing to bet that I have one of the most bug-free systems running off the leak.

I'm not quite sure why people don't follow instructions word-for-word then wonder why they have issues, but I don't think it's ever going to stop. If you want to have a useable phone, be as careful as possible, follow instructions verbatim, and pray at least once :P.

I just did this and while it worked fine it DID NOT keep root using voodoo...Voodoo shows "device rooted" checked, but shows "root permission granted" unchecked - Apps requiring root DO NOT WORK.

Any ideas?

I'm 99.9% confident I ensured voodoo was protecting root first, but seems it didn't.

Would LOVE to have ICS on my phone however if I can't get hotspot to work (without paying absurd fees of course) then I need to fastboot it back to stock.

???

Terminal fix should fix permissions.

It fails most of the time, but as long as you protected it you can restore using Terminal Emulator which you can download from the market. Method originally by DHacker, clarified and posted here by PillClinton.

Mine wasn't 150 when I changed it with ICS already installed. it was something like 74. regardless. just change the one called "entitlement check" from a 1 to a zero. Though I only recommend doing this if you're having issues with entitlement as I was. Not so that you can cheat the system out of fees. (I even own the license for SQL lite)

Lets pretend I have no idea how to do that and couldn't find the post by PillClinton here...? . . . ? Help? Linky?

EDIT: <Head pulled out of rear end/> - Found it...Thanks!

...But it didn't work...getting permission denied on first step - REALLY hoping there's a way without fastbooting back, going through OTA to 173 then re-installing it?

Here is something strange. I went to edit line 150 and realized that entitlement_check was on line 79 on my system. I went ahead and edited it and it works grat. I have no idea though why mine was on 79 instead of 150.

So that I don't have to read through a billion posts, could someone please answer (likely re-answer) this:

Will following the steps in the OP to install the leak, permanently throw you off the upgrade path or can we still RSD/Fastboot back to Ginger?

You can easily fastboot back to Gingerbread.

Ok...I know this is likely going to be considered "petty" but this really does mess with my morning routine...Anyone know how I can get the news widget on the razr (and jeez, all previous mot droids) on this version of ICS? It's missing and THAT SUCKS!

Any ideas?
