im far from noobish... been around since my eris, droid x, bionic., and now razr.... but never had a reason or cause to cheese cake... im far from incompitent... im a electrician and built a one of a kind water cooled pc ( check out my profile pic) i guess im looking for a simple 5 or 6 short line step... i must be missing something to not get into the cheese cake server.... i open the cheesecake app and i pick staging 100 then click on check for updates then i get the motorola account thing... i have rsd twice tonight... im highly doubting that i have to do a data wipe after the rsd.... i may be wrong... feel free to correct me though if im worng.... no need to flame though...

The first time I tried cheesecake I got stuck at the communicating with server part too . Then I read that when you first open the cheesecake app and pies the first option, you have to reboot your phone, then go back in and look on the servers . When I did that, it connected in seconds.

I am rooted. Voodoo ota root keeper worked just fine for me. Used Rom toolbox to restore all of my user apps. I will upload a screenshot in a second if I can grab it at the right time.

What happens is, from time to time, it will get stuck on a server, no matter what. So you can physically change servers and it'll still act like it's connected to the stuck server.I've seen it happen several times. When connecting to a server, at times, it will fail unconditionally over and over. The only way around it is a data wipe and start over.

I was sceptical as well about the data wipe but I did it and now the update is downloading. Finally.

I didn't wipe. Someone within these posts provided the files. Put them into system/cache, hit check for updates, and it installed with all of my apps intact without issue

I tried that as well but all that happened was the never ending "communicating with server.." and when I checked the cache directory, the .zip file was deleted while the CRC remained.

Thread locked temporarily. The files were pulled for a reason, and now we have a TON of people with seriously messed up phones.

Thanks. I was going to do this when I got home from work. There's a reason I don't give users instructions on how to install/use cheesecake.

ES File explorer or root explorer are the most common.

You're welcome to try. If it fails you'll have to RSD/Fastboot back but it shouldn't hard brick you.

I'll give it a try in a few minutes when I'm off the phone with my fiancee. If my battery is a little low, I might have to wait a bit for that first though.

edit > At 60% so I'll go grab some dinner first, and see what it is at when I get back.
