Not with this.  But if you search, you'll probably find root for it.

I'm trying to root my Photon Q, running 4.1.2. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader because I was attempting this method:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

However the phone wouldn't boot to CMWrecovery. So I attempted this method. This method hangs at

* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
I see most people having this problem have been advised to try another USB port, so I tried that, and to make sure they have the most current USB drivers, which I do. I also have had success communicating between phone and computer using fastboot. And the phone is in UBS debug mode. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

If your bootloader is unlocked, just find a SU .zip and flash in recovery.  I use SuperSU and you can find the .zip on XDA or Chainfire's website.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.

I can't get it to boot into recovery. When I tell it to boot to recovery, All it does is display an

I've tried  CMWrecovery and Open recovery both. I was told to try it while my phone was not connected to the USB cable, it didn't matter if I left it plugged in or not. I'm not picky about method, if you have an idea how to get that method to work, I'll try it.

It's not flashing custom recovery successfully.  You're booting into stock recovery, so yea, that's not going to work until you fix flashing custom recovery properly.

Okay, flashboot says it's flashing the recovery properly:

C:\Users\kicks\Desktop\root>fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery.img
  sending 'recovery' (6632 KB)... OKAY [  0.809s]
            writing 'recovery'... OKAY [  2.714s]
finished. total time: 3.523s

C:\Users\kicks\Desktop\root>fastboot flash recovery open_recovery_209_25_11_2013
.img
  sending 'recovery' (7462 KB)... OKAY [  0.901s]
            writing 'recovery'... OKAY [  2.254s]
finished. total time: 3.156s

Ideas on what is causing that?

Don't know of it was mentioned but after flashing custom recovery you have to immediately boot into recovery or the system will over write it with stock recovery and you are back where you started. BTW, are you certain that your boot loader is unlocked?

I am quite certain my bootloader is unlocked, I get a warning message every time I reboot the phone which I've done about a million times now. Particularly because I was having trouble getting it to boot into recovery mode. That was my problem. I was not booting into recovery mode immediately after flashing the recovery. You are super awesome and my hero!

and when I download a root checker, it doesn't detect it

I have a razr M.

Um what?  What is telling you to install an update?  You need to provide a LOT more information here.  What version of the OS are you on?  (4.1.2 is NOT what I'm looking for).

Sounds like the app needs updated?  Go into the Play Store and update it.  Updates come quite often for SU apps.
