Darn Verizon.. but they would always point the finger at Moto..Perhaps that is why Apple has never allowed VSW..to touch their phones..Wish Google would stand up to VSW..

My wife and kids are on it.  She just picked up the consumer AT&T S4 a few weeks back.  She's had LTE everywhere I'd want it, so, I just pulled the trigger on the GPE version.  Month to month so no contract tying me in.

I have LTE here for both VZW and AT&T so for me it makes sense.  I'm done with VZW's attitude towards development.  Yea, you can buy a dev device, but, it's still loaded with VZW bloatware and subject to their update rules.  At least with a GPE Google directly controls my updates which means they drop when the updates drop.  4.3 will drop next week officially.  Install it, root it using the custom recovery method that we unlocked HD users use now, call it good.  VZW is only going to make unlocking and rooting more difficult going forward.  Motochopper no longer works....Dan has said he's done chasing the root exploits.  Someone may get it done or they may not.  With an unlocked device, it'll get done.  And with Google support behind it, fully functional roms that have the proper kernel support will be there.  Just some things to consider while you wait for a possible new root exploit.  :)

This is all true. The Nexus updates are nice to get right away. I really wish I could get the same kind of connection /service equal to vzw, but sadly it's just not the same. And the ltew

Yea, that's definitely a shame.  Lack of AT&T LTE is what kept me from jumping sooner.  But my wife picked up her AT&T S4 a few months ago and has been rocking it everywhere we go and it matches my signal on VZW, so, I have no more excuses.

I learned my lesson on the Bionic.  NO more locked phones for me...ever.  A community member was very kind to give me a consumer RAZR HD and I unlocked it the day I got it.  But ultimately VZW's practices are becoming more and more anti-dev.  AT&T's are, too, but, they at least allow BYOD which means I can treat them like a service and they can leave me alone to do whatever I want with my device as long as I don't harm their service or ask them to warranty replace my phone.

Then you're going to hate VZW at some point, as your days of unlimited are sadly limited.  It's coming...just a matter of when.  I'm giving up unlimited to switch and I don't regret it.

Hello, I'm an experienced android rooter/custom ROMer. I used this method successfully on my razr maxx hd a month or two ago, and recently my razr maxx hd was updated by verizon with some security patches etc... and I lost root. I have not unlocked the bootloader or installed any custom ROMs on this phone. the system version is now 9.18.79.XT926. I tried running motochopper again and got this from the terminal (I'm on mac, and usb debugging is enabled on the phone):

[*] Press enter to root your phone...

[*]
[*] Waiting for device...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
[*] Device found.
[*] Pushing exploit...
3423 KB/s (1283460 bytes in 0.366s)
[*] Pushing root tools...
2120 KB/s (366952 bytes in 0.168s)
4118 KB/s (1867568 bytes in 0.442s)
3316 KB/s (1578585 bytes in 0.464s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]
[*] Rooting phone...
[+] This may take a few minutes.
[-] Failure.
[*] Cleaning up...
[*] Exploit complete. Press enter to reboot and exit.

needless to say, after restarting, the phone is not rooted. did the latest update from verizon break this tool? or do I need to do something to unroot before I re-root? I should also mention that I'm using titanium backup pro and have 'frozen' a bunch of apps... those frozen apps remain frozen now, even though I no longer have root, and titanium backup gives me a 'you don't have root' error when I run it. I don't need or want access to the frozen apps, but thought it was interesting that even without root, they remained frozen.

thank you!!

That root exploit was patched. You now need to root via custom recovery.
