In an effort to keep all the threads about bootloader unlocking consolidated to a minimum. This will be the "Official" bootloader unlock Q&A thread where people can ask and answer questions for each other.

With Fastboot files for ICS you can either flash them in order, one at a time in fastboot. Or, you can also run the RSD package. It may need to be edited as I don't know if it checks what you're current build is before it proceeds.

I don't know if this info is of any value or not, but when I initially tried unlocking, it reported that it was successful, but the device still showed locked. I was doing it from the stock rooted rom (4.1.2 maxx hd), and I have safestrap installed. I went into my SuperSU settings and went through the process of installing SuperSU into /system. I also temporarily changed the permission to automatically allow access rather than prompt. I doubt that had anything to do with it, but I did it just in case. After moving SuperSU to /system, it worked for me.

Automatically allow is what did it. Before, you were probably getting a prompt that you did not see. This happened to me and it took 2 attempts before I noticed the prompt from SuperSU.

Ok, I got unlocked and rooted and everything, also installed CWM recovery. I had used CWM on previous devices, but I am now seeing this "TWRP" recovery as well. Is one better than the other, or is there any benefit to having one over the other?

I was looking into a new phone and now I see this post. Does anyone know if I buy the phone new out of the box would it be installed with the patch to fix the exploit or should I be able to unlock the bootloader?
As far as we've seen, Verizon hasn't patched the hole yet.

Hello everyone! I'm having some trouble with getting Motochopper to work on my Mac. Yes, I know, I shouldn't even be using Mac in the first place, but it's all I have right now. I am runnning 10.7.5(Lion).
I was able to get as far as getting to the Motochopper directory in terminal, but I can't figure out what I have to do next. I'm sorry guys, but does anyone know what I have to do next? [My Droid Razr HD (XT926) is already rooted btw]
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you for your time and efforts!
I bash my own face in when I get frustrated.

HOW UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER COULD IMPACT YOUR DEVICE
- You will not be able to watch any movies you downloaded.
- Applications may not work anymore.
- You may lose encryption support.
- You may lose some key functions like telephone, radio, and audio playback.
- You could cause permanent/physical damage to your device.
Meh... Basically they are saying these are the things you could possibly screw up with your unlocked bootloader which is why we locked it for your safety.

The only reason unlocking your bootloader would cause any of that is because you flashed something that caused the issue. As long as you don' t flash something that renders your device a brick (mostly unlikely) just flash back to stock everything then go again....

These phones are hard to brick tyhe onlyway is if you try and flash something that is not for your devise and not even always. IMO if you do that its your own fault like dropping the phone in the toilet. Which brings up another point if you have insurance you can loose your phone. I have been rooting and unlocking for 3 yrs and have never bricked so far lol.

Can I lock it back after unlocking it?

What if a rom installs in-correctly and causes a bootloop. would holding the power button down be enough to kill it and restore a back up?
