i just called a store and they said they had them. Its weird though because my friend knows nothing about rooting or bootloaders. He started the conversation and said they couldnt upgrade any moto hd phones because of program issues. i guesse just a weird coincidence. Either way i got a good laugh

I like many on the forum have never had the opportunity to own a device with an unlocked bootloader. I spent many an hour playing with ROMs on SS. I would say that my true goal has been to find and run a ROM that I can use on a long term basis. A ROM that I can count on to always funtion properly, that is really fast, looks cool, and is completely debloated.
My question is: Now that Dan has provided our unlock exploit, Can I look forward to custom ROMs/kernals that have these features I'm looking for? 2. Not having that safe feeling that SS allowed me is a bit intimidating; how would any of you devs/experts reccomend I familiarize myself with this, "Brave New World" of sorts, that my newly unlocked bootloader has presented me with? Any tips/advice would be gladly appreciated.

i had given over to the thought of having a stock phone with my razr maxx hd, and never bothered to root. i installed the OTA 4.1.2. the new exploit from djrbliss gave me root but didn't unlock my bootloader. has anyone else with the problem figured it out yet? i'm a beggar so i ain't choosin, but i'm wondering if i just sit on my rooted/locked bootloader for now or if there's a better answer...

There are 2 separate utilities. One to root and one to unlock the bootloader.

according to everything i've seen and read, the motopocalypse utility is supposed to do both. on mine it only successfully rooted the phone, but the bootloader is still locked. again, i was unrooted when i (stupidly) took the 4.1.2 OTA. and again, i'm not complaining, just wondering if smarter people than me found a fix out there

The Motopocalypse utility unlocks the bootloader. You have to be rooted to use it.
The Motochopper will root 4.1.2. Use this first to get root, then unlock your boot loader. then install a recovery. Then make a nandroid backup immediately from the recovery before you start messing with new ROMs.
Let us know how you make out!

I have CWM installed on my unlocked razr m. If I wanted to switch recoveries (i.e. switch to TWRP), how do I go about doing that? Thank you.

So now that we have unlocked bootloaders how do we go about getting the latest ota's? I want to keep my unlocked bootloader but when(if) 4.2 comes to our HDs,how will we get it? There has to be a security check for a locked bootloader right?

And also, will RSDlite re-lock the bootloader, or will I have to permanently void my warranty by unlocking it?

It won't relock. Your warranty is done if you unlock your boot loader.

A developer will reconstruct any new OTA into a safe, flashable file and release it.

Neckchop is right, I've fastbooted three times since unlocking, and I'm still unlocked.  Someone on XDA said they relocked when they RSD'd, but I'm not sure how.
