With my thunderbolt, i needed to perform nandroid backups before flashing. Is there a similar process needed before I flash the Rage Rom?

You can make a backup in Safestrap....you dont want to flash over your Stock, use a Slot in Safestrap

wow, I am learning on the fly here, and from what I see, this SS allows you to use multiple ROM's similar to a dual boot on PC? Is that correct?

If you have safestrap 3.11 (you should have) open the app and select install recovery. Then reboot your phone. Right after the Moto logo you'll see a screen that allows you to enter safestrap. Press menu to enter safestrap, press search to continue booting. If you don't make a selection, after 10 seconds it will boot normally.

Oops, I see you got it going. Eyes aren't so good in my older age I guess. :) Guess I'll leave the post here for anybody else wondering how it works.

Thank you so much for this. I somehow messed with enough so that my phone wouldn't boot, and I used option 2 to fix things right up. You are a hero. Thank you!

So I used this utility, and it worked. I followed the directions to the letter.
However, my phone won't go past the phone setup guide screen.

I choose my language, and it reboots.

ANY HELP?!?!

Nobody???

If I had to guess, you tried Option 2. You can try wiping, or try Option 1.

I had this issue twice with option 2, Decided to do option 1 with a full wipe and it works flawlessly!

Wiped before I tried Option 2.
Wiped again, then tried Option 1. Wiped and tried again.
It upgraded to JB, but kept shutting down before setup could occur
Finally took it to the Verizon store and got a replacement.

I think my phone just really didn't want to upgrade to JellyBean

When you extract the zip, make sure you're extracting it to it's own folder, not a premade folder, or a folder within a folder, or anything like that.

Extracted it to a new folder that wasnt premade on the desktop named razr. Iv already downloaded the utility 3 times from the 3 differant mirros and installed them the same and still the same error. Kinda confused, iv ran the utility in the past and never had a issue..

Try running the batch file as administrator (right click on it>run as administrator).

I made a similar post on Hashcode Corner thread with the intent to understand more about what Safestrap is telling me. In this thread I would like to try to see if the X912 utility can help me recover without wiping out the one good ROM I have.

I am having trouble since I updated to JB from ICS. It was a long process, but I got the update and had a good stock ROM running using a combination of Matts utility with the final update coming OTA from Veriaon. I also updated from Safestrap V2.11 to 3.11 somewhere along the line, but I can't remember if I used Matt's utility for that or just installed the file from the XDA forum. I did go back later and move the old SS backup folder to the external SD card based on reading in the XDA forum that you should do that. I didn't do it before upgrading though.

I flashed a custom ROM and it is working fine. Now I cannot get into my stock rom (boot loop) and I cannot restore either of two stock backups that I made with safestrap. When I open Safestrap from the custom ROM, it says Recovery State: Old Version,Safe System: Not Active. It also has a small 2.00 lower on the screen. I am not familiar enough with Safestrap to know what these mean and whether they may hold some clue to my being able to get the stock system back without a big hassle.

If I use the X912 utility does it affect all ROM slots or only the one selected in Safestrap? e.g, if I boot into Safestrap, select the stock slot, then reboot into recovery and run the utility will only the stock slot be affected or will all be affected? Also, it sounds like Option 2 might not wipe the other slots, but Option 1 may. I have also read about Voodoo causing some issues. Not sure if this could be related to any of this, but I have Voodoo installed.

Thanks.

Neither option will wipe your slots. If you choose the option to wipe it only wipes the /data partiion. Not your internal or external sdcards. However, you will lose safestrap with either option so you'll have to reinstall that after you've used the utility. Once you install safestrap again, you should see the same slots as you have now when you boot into safestrap as long as you don't move them or some such thing.

Don't mess with that safestrap you have installed on the custom rom. You should just install safestrap from the stock side. The other one isn't hurting anything there as long as it's inactive. If it were me, I'd just uninstall it and avoid the possibility of installing it by accident in the future . I don't mean open the app and uninstall. Go to manage apps and uninstall the app itself. Also, if you make a backup of the stock side, don't do it with root protected by Voodoo. Once you're done, delete the backup in Voodoo or you'll be in the same boat next time you try to restore a backup of the stock side. For some reason, the backups don't work if they were made while root is/was protected.

Robocuff,

Thanks for the response. This clears things up for me quite a bit. I am trying to understand how all this works. The install via the utility not wiping the other slots makes sense to me, but I wasn't sure. The issue with making backups with Voodoo protecting the root is harder to understand. Anyway, I will delete the two stock backups I have, install via Matt's utility - trying option 2 first, then unprotect the root and make a backup.

I really appreciate the help.

Steve
