You are booted into the OS when you plug your phone in?? Usb debugging on?? In MTP USB mode?? Drivers installed?? Cleared data in Smart actions app??

Didn't see the MTP USB Mode part anywhere in the initial instructions or within the script. Remembered this as soon as I saw your post though from the earlier versions of the Razr Utility and realized the error of my ways. :) Maybe we could get the part about MTP added into the initial post in reference to the root function?

Yesterday I ran into a problem trying to get to back my ICS stock rom in safestrap to prepare my phone for JB. I ended up stuck at black screen after the red moto logo and couldn't even get to safestrap anymore. I downloaded your utility, flashed JB and was up and running and rooted in no time. I really appreciate your taking the effort to make this work on linux. My ancient xp laptop always seems to have driver issues with all of my android devices. On my linux box I've never had any problems at all, it all just works every time. Thank you, Matt, for a great utility and for supporting linux!

OK...for the stupid ones.....I downloaded this tom my PC desktop...extracted files to its own folder....so NOW WHAT?

Do I put the folder on my Razr maxx internal or external storage? then what? All these instructions seem to be for people who are about in the higher end of knowing what all these terms are and what they are for....rooted? etc. HELP a technical guy but not with this particular technology....thanks in advance. Tony

Leave the folder on your PC. Once your ready put your phone in fastboot mode (from powered off state hold both volumes and power til menu appears, then hit volume down to highlight fastboot and then vol up to select) then plug your phone into PC and click the bat file in the folder.

Then you are ready to do option 1 to restore to stock JB

  • Install the required drivers. The folder with the drivers is called "Drivers [WINDOWS ONLY]" and is included in the Utility folder.
  • Double click the ".bat" file. This will be called "WindowsUtility.bat" the image is just for reference.
Do I do these 2 steps after the files are on my phone????

Huh?? You are not putting any files on your phone. Leave the folder on your PC. Yes install the drivers before starting. Phone should be in fastboot mode before clicking the bat file

There should be a bunch of files in the folder. I think you did not extract it correctly. Download and install WinRar. Then right the Utility zip and select extract here

For some reason you hit the strike through button.

I deleted your phone number. You don't want to post that in public man. Who knows who will see it and call you. Lol,,,
