spec:
model: DROID RAZR
system version: 6.12.173.xt912.verizon.en.us
build number: 6.5.1-176_DHD-14_M2-5
i'm looking at upgrading it to Icecream Sandwhich (4.0.3) from gingerbread but i'm not sure how to.
i was told, by razrguy, on youtube that i have to upgrade the system version to 651.167.20 Retail en.EU before you can put it to ICS but i'm not sure.
i'm not tech stupid by any means. i've had UBUNTU for several years now and i'm very familiar with linux as a whole
as you can see by screen name i love to have the hottest $#!+ and I very much so would like ISC on my new Driod.

The best you can do right now is root and flash a custom rom that is built from ICS. What you were told is to my knowledge not possible and would screw your phone up. Any others devs or mods able to confirm this?

You are correct. If he flashes an EU gsm file to his cdma Verizon phone, it will not work.

Thanks for the backup on this. I was pretty confident that I was right but its always nice to have a second opinion. lol I looked up Razrguy on YouTube and the videos that he has dealing with upgrades to ICS are all for the xt910 EU version of the Razr. There was no mention of the xt912 US version unless it was actually in the videos which I didn't watch.

Yup - I tried this long ago. It will fail without doubt. Annnnnnd without a factory cable that's not the kinda failure you wanna risk.

Yes, use this guide. ONLY FLASH 6.14.75.... Don't use any other leaks. (Only this one allows downgrades.)

.79 is also downgradable.

I just installed .79, RSD'ed back to 181 to see if I could, and am back on .79 ICS. .79 seems to work just fine, it's 4.0.3, and you're not locked-in. Avoid .84 and .85: there's no way back or forward at this point.
DirtyDroidX should be updating his "How to Unbrick" article with the RSD 5.6 181 fastboot file shortly.
Once you RSD the 181 bits (DroidRazrUtility1.6 didn't work for me - the script is broken), .79 installs perfectly. And it's very easy to go back to 181 for when OTA ICS comes out.
