I am currently using SS 3.12 on my Razr M. Yesterday, I created a backup of my stock ROM and the custom ROM on Slot 1. I saved both backups on my external SD. There are folders there and files in them, but they are not in .zip format. Am I missing something here? I have read through many SS threads on several different forums, and I can't seem to find the answer. I'm used to using CWM on my Tab, and it creates .zip files every time I do a backup. Is SS outsmarting me, do I need or format into a .zip myself? What am I missing? Thanks for your help.

Rik, all is well, SS doen't make .zip files.
If you chose to backup System & Data, you will get *.win files for each in a directory that is named for the rom slot involved & you should be able to name the backup files within to choose when restoring, but you still get the product of .win files & .win.md5 - which are Checksum files to ensure proper b/u & restore.

Ah, okay. I thought I was losing my mind. When I go into the folder for each back up, I have the system and data files. If I restore, do I choose all files or only the .md5 files?
Sorry for the questions, I'm just trying to make sure I have firm grasp on SS. Thank-you for your help.

Rik, this is where that backup name comes into play. Make sure you have the rom slot from which the backup was made set as active, then go into the screen wïth Restore, & choose that backup name fm the Restore screen & confirm that you have the backup set you want (SS will display the filename in the window, & drag the slider at the bottom fm left to right - & you are done.
You can always stop dragging the slider & let go of the slider before you reach the furthest point to the right to abort if you change your mind or if at the last moment you notice its not the right backup.
Search on YouTube. there's gotta be a tutorial video for SS.
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I've read through quite a few threads and have watched some videos, but I wanted to make sure I had the procedure correct in my mind. I incorrectly restored a backup a few weeks ago, and I had to Fastboot back to stock. I don't want to do that again. Thanks for the help, it's all a lot more clear now.
