i tried using root explorer as well, still no go. The only thing i  come up with, is that the file is for  4.1.2 & im still on 4.1.1. not sure if that would make a differance. as  i heard the update didnt have anything to do with that part.

Hey guys,

I'm new to these forums and have been lurking around for about a week.  Basically, I am wanting to install Flying Jelly to my XT907.  I've read about some of the other ROMs for this device, but I really want to go with this one.

Some background on me:  I'm an IT professional with 12 years of experience.  Finally broke down and purchased my first smartphone this past December.  I've had it rooted since buying it, also had no issues un-rooting/installing the 4.12 OTA.  I've spent the better part of tonight/this morning attempting to root my device.

Here are the steps I've taken (other than doing a lot of research here & other places).  I downloaded Matt.s 1.20 Utility.  Obviously the first step I took was backing up everything using Titanium and also storing it & my external SD onto my PC.  Then, I flashed the 4.1.2 Stock from the AP Fastboot.  Then, flashed the Stock recovery (step 2 from utility) from AP Fastboot again.  I tried using TWRP to flash Flying Jelly, but I didn't have the option to Mount the system drive, I only seen the option to unmount.

So I switched to CWM.  From CWM, I unmounted the System drive, rebooted the system, and I have been stuck on this "Team Litespeed" screen for over half an hour.  Of course the first step I took was unlocking my bootloader, and rooting my phone after flashing the stock recoveries.

Any ideas on what i am doing wrong?  This is my first attempt to root a device, and I figured instead of jumping in and asking questions off the bat, I would research as much as possible, but I guess that hasn't quite worked out for me, as I was under the impression I understood what I needed to.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Also - I would like to thank everone in this thread for all the useful feedback.  It has helped me a ton (well, I guess since my device doesn't seem to be working, maybe not a "TON")... LOL.  Just kidding.  Thanks so much to the devs, testers, and enthusiasts alike. And also I would like to thank anyone who takes the time to respond to my issue(s).

Cheers!

- woody,

You want to mount system. If the only option was to unmount that means it was already mounted.

Yeah, I did that too, but still had no luck.  It basically just stayed stuck on the loading screen when turning the phone on.  I ended up installing Safe Strap and got it up and running with zero problems.  Thanks for the response!

Also, has anyone had any issues with the camera?  As soon as I open the camera, within 5 seconds I get a message stating "Unfortunately, the camera has stopped."

I apologize if this has been covered somewhere else and I have just missed it.

I would like to thank all you guys for being such a great community!

If you are on official 4.1.2 ota that would be the reason for camera not working as this is a 4.1.1 based rom

I see.  I did unroot & perform the 4.1.2 OTA, then rooted and flashed Flying Jelly while being on 4.1.2.  Since flashing the ROM, however, it shows that my current version is 4.1.1.

So, does this mean I am still on the official 4.1.2 OTA?

I apologize for my ignorance - this stuff is still all new for me (although I must say I have had such a fun time learning so many new things).  Also, is there any way that I can fix the camera if this is the case?

Thanks guys!

Ya what he said haha. FJ was built for use in the safeatrap days so it did not come with the kernel it just used the kernel currently running

Thanks for all the responses guys. You all are great. I kind of feel silly asking these questions. As many years as I've spent in the IT industry, I'm usually the one answering mundane questions, lol. This is definitely an entirely different type of technology, that's for sure. I do sincerely appreciate it, though.

So, I downloaded a 4.1.1 build for the xt907. Would I need to back up the current ROM I'm using, flash 4.1.1 an then flash the backed up ROM? Or would just flashing 4.1.1 over my stock ROM do the trick?

That's the exact one I have, Brandon.  I believe I got it from some other place you posted it.  Thanks for all the help guys.  I can't stress how much I appreciate all the assistance.

Well, after endless searching I was unable to find how how to enter a command line in to flash the 4.1.1 .img I downloaded.  I tried several different methods, and thoroughly searched google, but unfortunately had no luck in finding any useful information.  Everytime I tried to use the command line option in Safe Strap, it basically just gave me something similar to a 'path not found' error, thus disabling me to type any sort of command in.  I also tried using RSD Lite, which I ended up soft bricking my phone somehow.  So after doing a 4.1.2 recovery using Matt's Utility, I ended up downloading the 1.10 utility (since my bootloader is unlocked) and just flashed back to 4.1.1 that way.

Thanks again for all the help, you guys have been great!

Well, I feel like an idiot.  All I had to do was literally open up a command prompt to type the fastboot 4.1.1.img file.... Wow.  Of course it hit me as soon as I finished restoring my backup from using the 1.10 Utility to flash 4.1.1....  /facepalm

I'm gunna start working on the update today since we have an M now. It will be tested on an unblocked boot loader mostly but I'll have some people test it on locked as well. Thanks for your patience! :-)

Hey TLS, getting ready to make the switch here to the M from the Bionic. It should arrive Thursday. Once I get it, I will definitely be unlocking, rooting and ROMming. I'm pretty excited I can stay with the same same ROM. FJ has been fantastic on my Bionic. I would let you know I will be happy to aid in testing if needed, I was on the FJ Bionic Beta team previously. Let me know if I can help is all I'm saying.

Keep up the great work and thanks for making picking a new phone a bit easier!
