I see there's not a lot of activity in this forum, hopefully it's not dead... Anyway, I have a Droid Razr Maxx XT912 (Verizon), System Version 98.72.165.XT912.Verizon.en.US Android version 4.1.2 CDMA/LTE. Do you need any other information? It's stock, completely. Never rooted. Now that it's basically just an android device, since I cancelled my cell service with Verizon, and it's old, I'd like to root it and see if I can update it to the latest OS and or just tinker with its guts. But, I'm completely confused by all the instructions for rooting. I see: use this rooting tool, but only for version blah blah blah. Use this one for Jelly Bean, but only the Christmas leak. Use this one, but not on Razr Maxx XT912, I guess I just want someone to tell me what tool to use on my phone so I don't brick it. And, if I do brick it, which tool to un-brick it! Also, I'd like to NOT infect my PC with some Trojan horse, worm, ransomware... Which tools are tried, tested and proven safe? I know the majority of us are decent honest folks, but I also know there are a few with less than honorable intentions when it comes to hacking a device. Also, I'm kind of a noob to this idea (rooting). I've got some android programming experience, some IT (sysadmin) experience and some iSeries programming under my belt. I'm not your average user, but I'm by no means an expert in this area. BTW, if I can't upgrade to the latest OS, I'd still like to root it, so any direction to do that for this specific phone and OS combination, would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
